Abstract
Purpose: We studied 189 men who are over 40 years of age to establish the relationship of serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) and maximum flow rate (MFR) according to age in Deajeon city and a rural area in ChungNam of Korea.

Patients and Methods: 189 men who are participated in course of lecture about benign prostate hyperplasia in November 2002 were investigated. The screening tests included international prostate symptom score(IPSS), serum prostate specific antigen and uroflowmetry. The PSA levels and MFR were compared with age using Pearson correlation and linear regression analysis.

Result: The serum PSA correlated with patient age(r=0.200, p=0.006) and MFR also correlated with patient age (r=-0.217, p=0.004) but IPSS did not correlated with patiene age(r=0.135, p=0.07). The serum PSA for men in the 40¡¯s was 0.78¡¾0.22 ng/ml; for 50 to 59 years, 1.14¡¾1.69ng/ml; for 60 to 69 years,1.44¡¾1.61 ng/ml; for greater than 70 years, 2.53¡¾4.54ng/ml.

Conclusions: Our data showed that the serum PSA and MFR directly correlated with patient age.
